Tre FCEV
The hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric vehicle for longer or continuous metro-regional application.
I've worked on this vehicle from inception to launch (MY 23) and subsequent continuous improvement via Over the air update for the past two years. During that time I've lead the UX strategy and design of the in-vehicle experience ranging from digital and physical interfaces, exterior lighting, interior and exterior sound.

Digital UX
Tre FCEV comes standard with a 12.8" digital instrument cluster and industry leading 17.3" infotainment display. The safety of our drivers is top priority and is a lens that all design decisions are filtered through. We leveraged this digital canvas to provide a simple and innovative digital experience that keeps eyes focused on the road and the task at hand.
Notable features that I designed end to end include ADAS L2, Vehicle Controls, Settings, Navigation, Media, HVAC, Fueling, Voice Assistant and Start Up / Shutdown experience.
Voice Assistant
Nils helps keep drivers focused on the road enabling hands free interactions with telephony, navigation and HVAC.
Designed the VUI avatar, states and animations.
Audio UX
The diesel truck cabin of today is filled with annoying buzzers, beeps and ambient engine noise that leaves drivers cognitively and physically fatigued after long shifts. The near silent operation of our truck provided a blank slate for a unique audio experience that reduces cognitive load and reaction time, increasing safety for the driver.
Led the strategy and design of over 50 custom sounds for the Nikola in-vehicle and mobile experience.
DRL Signatures
Communication is one of our core experience principles. We believe that the truck of the future more clearly communicates with the user and environment in the various states of operation.
Led the strategy and design of 15 unique DRL signatures accompanied by exterior sounds that debuted with Tre FCEV launch.

Steering Wheel
The secondary interaction zone supports vehicle operation. The architecture we designed provided ADAS controls, media, telephony, HVAC presets, voice assistant and drive modes keeping hands on the wheel.
Defined the switch map and behavior of 22 steering wheel buttons.
